A Response to CCP Leeloo

As expected, my blog popst this morning was not well recieved by CCP. I had attempted to keep specific incidents not pertaining to me out of it and keep things general, however CCP Leeloo decided to drop the gauntlet on twitter a short time ago calling me out.

My response obviously took longer than 120 characters to create, as when refuting an outright lie, one must sometimes cite specifics. I made a twitlonger post, but have got reports from some people that they were having trouble viewing it. I will quote it below, though will likely fix a typo or 2.

I will finish by saying that if CCP Leeloo or other staffers at CCP would really like to have the full drama dropped in the public, I'll be more than happy to oblige with far more specific commentary. My initial hope was to show the issues facing the CSM as a whole more than my own personal issues and I focused on those issues that have affected everyone, and was hoping to leave it at that. It appears however, that we may not be done here.
@ccp_leeloo #tweetfleet Ok, so you want to talk about logging into confluence. First, I didn't bring up confluence because I assumed that particular site was NDA. I have actually logged in several times, and every time someone from CCP deigns to notify the CSM of an entry requiring review. Your claim that I haven't logged in is patently false and I dare say a lie. I don't always have something to say, because hey, why waste breath if it's not something directly affecting lowsec or my highsec ganker bros, it's not like the teams heed the advice before the trolls get hold of it.

You will however find my most recent comment (in confluence) on the 25th of January regarding a feedback issue which I am quite sure is still under NDA. I find that to be quite amazing for a guy that never logs into confluence to read and give feedback on proposed changes though.

Before that, I was in to review the daily minutes at the summit I was mostly unable to attend due to work requirements, and before that confluence was barely used, much like the internal forum that did not see a single dev post from mid december until AFTER the summit, though myself and other posted questions for you guys that went unanswered.

As far as meetings, it's extremely hard to make a Friday 2pm GMT (9am Local) meeting when you work a 9 to 5 job. I believe I have asked more than once for earlier meetings that I might alarm clock for (say 10am GMT) but when you deign to threaten other members of the CSM with "The FunkyBacon Treatment" for having a less than rosy outlook on the happenings of the CSM, I'm not surprised one bit that accommodation was never made. I do make a point however, to review and watch the video recordings you send us through e-mail.

Your move.

  3. Just let it go, sure, What CCP Leeloo said isn't completely true, we all have real lives, commitments and issues. But going this public meltdown route isn't going to do you any good.

    1. Because CCP itself is the be all end all of company's. Remember CCP Greyscale; the person who came up with the brilliant idea of jump fatigue and its use of an exponential equation who now has no job and CCP refuses to say why

    2. WTF does ANY of that have to due with his comment? He responded by saying if you don't have flexible work hours, then maybe you shouldn't be putting yourself up for election as a elected official in a game. You know a position that REQUIRES A SHIT LOAD OF TIME CONSUMING EFFORT! - HURR DURR.

Get off his nuts already. Your response was more along the lines of "I'm going to blindly defend someone on the net by blaming a company about an issue that has absolutely fuck all to do with said comments in the first place."

Seriously..and I agree with the guy you responded to. I'm not going to say anything about this current issue. But the guy is right. If the blog owner couldn't invest a considerable amount of time for his position due to RL concerns, he shouldn't have put himself in the running for a damn seat to begin with. Just like I'll never run for CSM. As I don't have the time for it. (nor the health/financial abilities if I were asked to come out to see CCP in person.)

  5. You knew what you were getting yourself into, so if you couldn't commit in the first place, that's your problem, not theirs.

    1. "You knew what you were getting yourself into"

I'm not even convinced he did know.

FB seemingly went in believing that CCP must consult him about every aspect of "his area" and must then act upon his words without question. e.g. awox change which FB is soooo butt hurt over.

FB failed to realise that the CSM is essentially an optional focus group for devs and as such, possibly the most important aspect for any CSM member is the ability to instill CCP with sufficient confidence to deal with them. As most people know, being at the dictatorial abrassive asshole end of the spectrum isn't going to achieve that. Being personable, open and constructive is far more likely to get you listened to. FB still does not understand this.

  6. So post proof of your browser's Confluence login cookies and full history if you want to refute. It's your word against CCP's, and I'm honestly more inclined to believe CCP.

If you got voted into the CSM based on the words and promises of your platform, and you had lackluster participation, then what confidence should one have in you as a member of the CSM, let alone someone who is qualified to review the performance of members?

    1. If I thought for a moment that I wouldn't break the NDA by doing so, I'd provide it in a heartbeat. Sadly, unless CCP gives me explicit permission to share such information, this will need to remain a he said:she said argument. Confluence is a relatively new thing for the CSM and wasn't implemented as a form of feedback until a short time ago. Only in the last couple of weeks has it started to take the place of the internal CSM forum. Prior to that, the internal CSM forum has been the main place where important discussions are had about possible changes to the game, and nearly every dev posting in there contains a minimum of one response from me giving my thoughts on the matter at hand, exceptions being wormhole discussions and 3rd party stuff where I feel it's out of my experience level to give decent feedback.

for those who can't make meetings, recordings of those meetings are e-mailed to everyone on the CSM for review and feedback if we have anything to add. While i can't make the vast majority of these daytime meetings, I do make a point of reviewing the videos, and if I feel I have something to add, sending that along. Often the feedback of those in the meetings have covered anything I would have said, and nothing further needed to be added unless there was pushback.

  8. OK, so you logged into Confluence 5 times. Or 9 times. Or 14 times.

So yeah, it may well be the case that you can play at expert spaceship design consultant just as well without being a CSM. Maybe that's not the point of being a CSM? Can you clarify where it is agreed that CCP is required to run those details past the CSM for approval? (Apart from the stake holder team? And yes, there was the fuss about saying the CSM had saw "approved" that they did not, but that's another issue.)

Can see other CSM members using their position productively and responsibly. I don't see that the CSM is about being technical game design consultants, nor that they are significantly more useful for that purpose than other player feedback methods.

  9. I think you'll regret making this post, the first one was fine and served as a good counter to the CSM and your opinion of it. But this post makes all of that pointless now, as this just moves everything into drama llama territory and no one will hear the original points you were trying to make.

    1. You're right of course, but being put on the spot by Leeloo stating that I was a complete non-participant also put that message in jeopardy. Especially infuriating was that it was also a bald faced lie. You yourself are no stranger to taking gloves off when someone calls your integrity into question.

Looking on this right now, given her lack of response since this post suggests that Leeloo's tweet was likely made in in the heat of the moment and in error. I was expecting a private reprimand and possibly getting knocked off the CSM a little early, (at this point it doesn't matter much since there's not much left for us to do this term, and most of those not running again are already pretty much done). I suspect that we're both probably going to at the very least get a talking to over this incident, and in the end, nobody wins.

    2. "made in the heat of the moment" sums up the entire episode.

Should have turned off the PC and walked around the block.

    3. I'll freely admit you're right. Now that I'm a bit calmed I can think of at least 5 responses I could have made to her tweet that would have been better than what I had to say while incensed. "Well at least you can't say I'm full of shit" among them.

Unfortunately, this is the internet, so there's no point in deleting and starting over. Just have to work it from here.

Sums up why CCP aren't too keen on consulting with you on game changes. Stop being a drama queen, calm the fuck down and approach things with a rational head. Why the fuck would CCP want to deal with someone like you if they don't have to?

    It's what's expected of you.

    1. Summer summit, I had the week off, then it was moved. Attended 1 out of 3 days and included lowsec session as well as the heavily covered highsec one where the awox nerf was revealed. Winter summit, alarm clocked for the lowsec session and ship balance session which were primary concerns.

      Delete
    2. I think the people who voted for you (me included) expected more from you than just attending two sessions. They might be the primary concerns for you but i voted for you because you seemed like a decent guy with good opinions about the game.

I didn't vote for you, expecting you to be a "one trick pony".

But i guess we didn't look at your term the same way...

  11. Wow. Childish. What the hell where you expecting when you signed up? To not have to take time off work? To be able to guide ccp completely?

I voted for you but with this, i now regret it.

Don't sign up for something that you couldn't have the time to attend. And, more importantly, don't bitch about it later because YOU couldn't do it.

What CCP said is still true. You didn't attend shit and then you made a post bitching about it.

Grow up because I'm sure there are children who are more mature than you and more able to meet the commitments they signed up for.

    1. The summer summit was moved AFTER funky got time off work to attend.

But also, he wasn't complaining about not being able to attend. The threads point was the CSM has less power than bloggers.

    2. Interesting. summer summit i was there for whole of day 2, my heated discussions in the corp/alliance meeting (which that doc says i did not attend) were well publicized in many blogs. I attended lowsec meetings for both summits, and would have done corps/alliances in winter summit but I was working that day. aside from that meeting, I was able to make the most relevant meetings to my constituency, and managed to stave off the complete removal of intra-corp agression, not through my participation in the relevant meeting, but through a massive media push once the minutes were released.

      Delete
    3. Also, Kristal is correct. I originally had the entire week of the summer summit off, then it was moved and i could not move my vacation to match, having to settle for arranging a day off on the day the lowsec meeting was scheduled.

      Delete
    4. And yet others could move their schedules around to match.

What about winter? Oh wait you had another excuse for that too. Look I understand people have real life commitments but you knew what the CSM was and what to expect. Other people have similar commitments and did far better than you and your 12% attendence.

It would have been far better for you to not have made this post at all. At least your previous one had some sembelence of maturity even though I still find it odd that you didn't know what to expect from the CSM but still ran for it.

      Delete
    5. "And yet others could move their schedules around to match." That does not depend on Funkybacon. At certain workplaces vacation schedules may have to be set months in advance to ensure that there is enough personnel to keep things running. You may be able to do some haggling and negotiating later, but there are limits both from the employer side and from coworker side (they have spouses too and have to plan their vacation times as well). Sure, it is easy if you happen to work in field where employer can easily do without you for some time, but Funkybacon does not appear to be in such field. That CCP waas unable to make plans that could stick reflects rather poorly on it and all the scheduling problems stemmed from their lack of proper planning.

      Delete
    6. And like I said sure people have personal commitments and that would have been OK if his attendance picked up in winter. But nope it was even more pathetic then. And what does he have to say for that? Another excuse about how CCP wouldn't change the time to suit him.

Nothing changed in the winter did it? But yet he had other commitments. Don't run for something like the CSM if you can't find the time to meet the requirements set out for you.

Instead we got a manchild that can't do what was asked from him except for ranting and whining when he didn't get what he wanted.

    7. @Anonymous01 February, 2015 22:16: I never said anything of the sort about CCP moving or not moving the winter summit. I give no excuse for that. I attended 2 of the 3 sessions I wanted to be there for, the 3rd I couldn't make because I was working, but reviewed the minutes on before they were released. We can keep harping on what I supposedly said though, or we could talk about the fact that what's going on right now are a series of personal attacks and not a single refute of anything I had to say about the CSM process this year, because what I had to say was factually correct, CCP can't refute it, those on both present and past CSMs either admit it was the case or are silent about it, and everyone's mad at FunkyBacon because he dragged the skeleton out of the closet and now CCP won't talk to CSM X because they're mad at FunkyBacon for calling out the truth.

      Delete
    8. But we aren't talking about that. That's why I said you should have ended it with your last post and not have posted this.
